In the 1920's, motorized farms were extremely rare. It was not until 1960 that machines became commonplace in the vineyards. Up to that point, the work in the vines was done manually, with horses and mules, without any mechanical aid.
During the harvest, grapes were picked by hand, bunch after bunch, and then brought to the winery on carts pulled by strong workhorses.

Throughout the year, the farmer and his horse went out together to the vines. It was a hard life that made it very difficult to expand the vineyards. Mechanization brought first tractors to work the vines and pull the harvest, and then an entire gamut of machines adapted to the vinegrower's needs.
The vineyards developed extensively but the vinegrowers kept their traditional know-how, and commitment to making wines of great quality.
