Cotes du Rhone wines are always a blend of several varietals. It is the very essence of this appellation that includes, for the wines of Laudun, four different varieties of grapes: Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre.
The Grenache, the principal variety, serves as a "reference date" as far as the harvest is concerned (day "n"). Syrah, an early variety, is harvested first ("n-10"), then comes Grenache, and then Cinsault ("j+3") and finally Mourvedre (j+20), the latest variety to ripen. |
|
Each variety is harvested separately at the height of its maturity and then vinified in separate tanks to obtain the base wines that are then blended.
For the Cotes du Rhone and Laudun Cotes du Rhone Villages, it is during the blending that each variety makes its contribution to these quality wines. |
