| Words such as "domaine", "chateau", "clos" and "manoir" are defined by very specific criteria. They must correspond to specifally named places in the territory, and have an established historical origin. This basis is regimented by the INAO (Institut National des Appellations Contrôlées). |
| A domain corresonds, judicially, to an entity whose grapes are vinified and whose wine is then bottled separately (obligation defined by the INAO). |
